Every driver has different routines, but reviewing the average Australian’s driving habits, cars are parked 80% of the time and only driven around 35 km per day.
For this use scenario Level 1 trickle charging is not only sufficient but ideal. With an average charging rate of 15 km per hour, an overnight charge of 10 hours (eg 8pm to 6am) can easily cover typical daily driving needs, providing 150 km of range. This makes Level 1 charging a practical and cost-effective solution, especially for Strata buildings where the focus should be on equal access to charging facilities – and affordability.
Trickle charging is also BEST for battery durability. Higher charging rates reduce the life-time of the car battery.
Until the arrival of RPG, EV charging solutions have been Level 2 systems. This usually requires substantial upgrades to a building’s electrical infrastructure, including new mains cabling to create a ‘backbone’ for residents to tap into and pay for the charger head at $1500+. These upgrades can be prohibitively expensive, especially in Strata-managed buildings where the cost must be borne by the Owners Corporation. That means every owner, even if they will never have an EV must pay.
Power supply requirements for Level 1 systems are lower and therefore avoids upgrade requirements, until a lot of EV chargers are in use..
The Owners who have an EV or want tenants with an EV, can afford to pay for an RPG EV-DB to be installed, themselves, without imposing on the Owner Corporation.
ReadySteadyPlug delivers “Smart” EV charging at a fraction of the cost of Level 2 installations.. You still get :
